Payments & Payouts

Common questions about payments & payouts in Affilitrak. Click any question to jump to its answer.

What payment methods do you support? / How do I pay affiliates?

  • Automatic/In-app method: for this, we use PayPal (connect in Payouts → connect PayPal) for batch or scheduled payouts.
  • Manual/Custom methods (e.g. bank transfer, Venmo) can be added in Payouts settings as “Affiliate payout methods” with a label and fields; affiliates choose a method and fill details on their profile.
  • Paying affiliates: Run a batch payout (PayPal) from the Payouts page, or use scheduled (auto) PayPal payouts. For manual payments (check, bank, etc.), use External payouts to record what you paid so balances are reduced and history is kept.
  • The Payouts guide explains the full payout workflow.

How do I add a payment method?

  • Store-level (available to affiliates): Go to Payouts → Payout settings → Affiliate payout methods → Add method. Give it an ID, label, and fields (e.g. “Bank account”, “Account number”). PayPal is built-in; add it here if you want it in the list.
  • Per affiliate: Open the affiliate → Payout method (or Payment details) → choose a method (e.g. PayPal or a custom one) and enter the details (e.g. PayPal email, bank info) then hit save.
  • If affiliates are filling this in themselves, the Affiliate portal guide explains the affiliate-facing side.

Which payment methods are supported by the app?

  • PayPal — supported for sending payouts (batch and scheduled). You connect your PayPal account in Payouts; affiliates enter their PayPal email.
  • Custom (manual) methods — you define them in Payouts settings (e.g. “Bank transfer”, “Check”). The app doesn’t send money for these; you pay outside the app and then record the payout as “External payout” so the balance and history are correct.

How do I schedule payouts with PayPal?

  • Payouts → open Payout settings (or setup).
  • Connect PayPal first (required for scheduled payouts).
  • Turn on Auto (scheduled) payouts and set:

- - Frequency: monthly, weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly.

- - Day: e.g. day of month for monthly, or day of week for weekly.

  • Optional: set a custom next payout date for the date shown on the dashboard. When the schedule runs, PayPal-eligible affiliates with a balance and valid PayPal details are paid in batch. Affiliates on custom/manual methods are skipped by auto payouts.

How do I set up custom (manual) payments?

  • Add a custom method: Payouts → Payout settings → Affiliate payout methods → Add method (name it e.g. “Bank transfer” or “Check”) and add fields (e.g. “Account number”, “Routing”). Affiliates then select this method and fill the fields on their profile.
  • Record manual payouts: When you pay outside the app (bank, check, etc.), go to Payouts → use External payouts: select affiliates and amounts, then submit. The app marks those as paid, reduces their balance, and keeps a “Manual” payout record. No money is sent by the app.

How can I change my store’s currency after setting it?

  • Currency is set in Settings → Business Settings.
  • If you already have purchases: The currency field is disabled to keep reporting consistent. So you'll need to contact support to change it.
  • If you have no purchases yet: You can change it yourself in Settings → Business Settings → Currency.
  • See Settings for why currency should be treated as an early setup choice.

Why isn’t my PayPal connecting or authorizing payouts?

  • User flow: Use the Connect PayPal action in Payouts; complete login and consent in the PayPal window. Don’t block pop-ups. If you cancel or close the window, authorization won’t complete.
  • After connect: If payouts still fail, check that the connected account has payouts permission and that affiliate PayPal emails are valid and verified. Reconnecting (disconnect then connect again) can fix expired or invalid tokens.
  • If Connect PayPal is missing or the app shows a configuration error, contact Affilitrak support — that usually means the shop’s PayPal connection/setup needs help on our side, not a setting you change in Shopify admin.
